Introduction again... 5-22-24
Hello!
My name is Melisa Smith (yes just one "s" - I recently discovered, as I was applying for the "new" driver's license, that on my birth certificate that there is only one S. To fix it it would have been more complicated and exhausting than it should have been. My name is still pronounced as Ma-liiii-ssssa even though most automatic voice recordings pronounce it as Meee-lye-za)

Anyway, back to where I started...I have been married since March 7, 2009 and have four awesome children: 13 year old boy, 10 year old boy, 7 year old girl, and 5 year old girl.
A little about me and my history. I grew up in Los Angeles, CA in the 80's. I am # 4 out of 5 kids, 3 boys and 2 girls. When I was 11 we moved to Minden, NV. I finished up my elementary and high school career there. After High School 1999 I moved to Utah (as did all of my siblings). I joined the Air Force Reserves - loved and hated it. For reasons I will get into later. Then went on an 18 month mission for my church in New Zealand 2002-2003. When I returned home I went back into the Air Force, Guard this time. I served for 11 years. During that time I never got deployed and it makes me think of the movie "Taking Chance" - if you've never seen the movie, it's a must. It's about the life of a marine who was a lifer but never fought in war and felt guilty for surviving. In the AF I traveled to many states and countries for training. Using the Military's G.I. Bill I earned my Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from Utah State University, something that the military always questioned, because I wanted a career outside of the military. I also got married and before being honorably discharged I was pregnant with my first child Nov 2010. I worked briefly as a server until I was too pregnant to work and had gone over my delivery date. I gave birth to a healthy boy, Mason. Feb 2011.
When Mason was 6 months old we moved to Nevada and lived with my parents for a year before buying our first home Aug 2013. Shortly after moving in to our new home we had our second son, Logan Oct 2013. We lived in NV for five years and had one more child, Alexa June 2016. My sister had moved to Nampa Idaho only 4 months before us and had an apartment in their backyard. When we were deciding where and what we were going to do the thought, "anything is better than here" came to mind. We visited once and then sold our home in a good market and moved to Nampa, Idaho (our current city). After we moved it was a struggle because Jeff was unemployed for a year before landing a great job with awesome benefits (something we had never had before - benefits). It had been almost 2 years since we have moved, and then had another baby girl, Olivia July 2018. My Interior Design skills came in handy living in this studio apartment.
In 2020 we bought a home, a much bigger and newer space for our family. By now I know for sure we are done having babies, and now I feel like I can finally live! lol. This is my life, my joy, my struggle. Join me on this path, the good, the bad, the ugly!
My joys and struggles as a stay-at-home mom are real, legit, and I know I'm not the only one; which is why I've decided to write about it. I have read other mom posts & blogs and it makes me feel like these women have it more together but at what price? or bad about myself for not having it more together! I want other women, moms, and stay-at-home parents to know that, "You are doing a great job", if your kid hates you at times for yelling at them for not listening to you for the umpteenth time to get off a device, or to put their clothes or toys away, or to make them go play outside when it's nice weather; it's O.K. You are doing the right thing and your kid(s) won't hate you forever! At least I hope ;)
